| This is a Milestone Build A milestone by it's very nature is unstable. This is the first milestone build of Kettle with Agile BI Extensions. This is being released under the "Early and Often" mantra of the open source process. Please give us feedback via the forums and JIRA. File formats will change and nothing you create with this build will be usable in any future versions. Do not use for making business decisions |
This is a milestone build of the Agile BI plugin for Kettle, based on Kettle 3.2.3. It includes modeling and analyzer capabilities for single fact table metadata models. The Agile BI — Milestone 1 Progress Notes page describes the work flow with screenshots.
To begin, right click on a Table Output Step or a database connection in a transformation, and select Model or Quick Visualize.
In this milestone, you cannot yet store models and analyzer reports in Kettle's repository.
The publishing mechanism available in the modeler is only compatible with the trunk of the BI Platform, which is fairly unstable right now (JPivot is broken, etc). Before publishing, you must create a models solution in the platform including a directory structure of resources/metadata for storing the XMI files. To adjust the default publish location, edit the plugins/spoon/agile-bi/biservers.properties file.

Open Source FYI
This package is not entirely open source but it is free to use. The changes to Spoon to support Agile BI are all open source and available for download at http://source.pentaho.org/viewvc/svnkettleroot/Kettle/branches/3.2.3-agile-bi/ The Analyzer plugin for visualization (formerly LucidEra ClearView) is not open source. The design changes to Spoon will eventually allow the visualization tool to be swapped out and we are currently planning to be able to drop in JPivot and PAT when it's ready. This will give users a fully open source option.
The plans for future packaging have not been decided on. Currently Pentaho is planning on making the Analyzer plugin to Spoon available for the community to use within Spoon. We have not decided if that will be packaged separately or included as part of a special build. With the Analyzer plugin, we cannot host those builds on SourceForge.
We will rely on feedback from the community to help steer this decision. Is a pure open source build of Spoon with less functionality preferable to a build with a non open source plugin. Please comment on this thread in the Agile BI Forum: http://forums.pentaho.org/showthread.php?p=228377#post228377
