The principles of open source and the Agile principles behind the Scrum methodology overlap significantly. The Scrum methodology can be adapted to include community participation, increased transparency, and feature hardening and acceptance. Usage of a well-defined and documented methodology is beneficial to open source projects.
Open Scrum is a lightweight, flexible methodology that is suitable for open source and commercial open source software development projects. It increases visibility into the actions of the core development team and increases the potential for community involvement without introducing arduous project management.
